Exciting activities planned for 2018 for Junior Honorary Rangers

The JHR’s meet once a month at Park Primary School and activities alternate between classroom and outdoor activities.

SOUTH African National Parks (SANParks) Honorary Rangers JHB South Regions Junior Honorary Rangers, which is in its third year of existence, has a range of exciting activities planned for this year.

Due to the overwhelming response and success of the Junior Honorary Rangers (JHR) programme, an additional class has been introduced for children between the ages of eight and 10. These aspiring conservationists will receive basic environmental education.

The JHR programme is aligned with certain school subjects such as natural sciences, social sciences, life orientation, economics and management sciences which offer the opportunity of gaining practical knowledge on certain topics.

The JHR’s meet once a month at Park Primary School and activities alternate between classroom and outdoor activities.

Some of the planned activities or outings for 2018 include: removal of alien invasive plants, survival and first aid training, animal tracks and signs, orientation on big five and lion visit, trip to a national park, Wetlands visit, birding and butterfly identification as well as participating at the Gandhi Walk 2018.

The opening activity commences on January 27 at Park Primary School, in Lenasia.
