VIDEOS: Second book under the belt for local body builder

The local star featured in a total of 11 international movies in seven years after making his debut.

MARTIN DeWee (53) from Brackenhurst is now launching his second book called Body Mechanic to help motivate and encourage families in Alberton and the South to follow his example by exercising daily and eating healthier to get the healthy body that we all want this 2018.

Born in Pietermaritzburg, Martin attended Raisethorpe Primary and Haythorne High School. He worked as a carpenter after finishing school but pursued a career in boxing. The talented youngster only lost three fights out of 105 amateur fights and then decided to go the professional route in Johannesburg.

“My boxing career was cut short after I signed a lucrative modelling contract which included TV commercials, ramp and magazine work in South Africa and Europe,” said Martin.

Living the high life – not forgetting humble beginnings

His movie career then rocketed when he starred in his first international movie called Dragonard alongside some of the well-known actors and actresses in America like Patrick Warburton, Oliver Reed and Lisa Rinna to name a few. The local star featured in a total of 11 international movies in seven years after making his debut.

IN SHAPE: Martin DeWee is 53 years old and believes age is just a number.

Not forgetting his roots, Martin returned to South Africa and lived briefly in Crown Gardens, Robertsham, Kibler Park and has been a resident of Brackenhurst in Alberton for over 20 years. He married Gloria Dewee in 1990 and had three sons; Fabian, Nic and Keagan. Sadly Gloria passed away peacefully in her sleep in 2015.

Martin had published his first book Drug Free Muscle Training back in 2004 and during this period until 2014 he ran an anti-drug campaign in high schools countrywide. He spoke to over 350 000 learners on the dangers of steroids and recreational drugs and will continue to do so in the South throughout 2018.

“My anti-drug campaign for the schools in the South and Alberton will kick off early in 2018. My plan is to visit all of the high schools in the Alberton and the Comaro areas to educate youngsters on the dangers around drugs and help them understand that they can be healthy and built without the use of steroids,” said Martin.

Some of Martins achievements

Martin won the South African Natural Heavy Weight bodybuilding title for four years in a row and proved that steroids are not necessary to achieve a good and healthy looking body.

“Over 30 years of weight training and nutritional experience has enabled me to help 100s of clients get into shape through my personal training business that I have run over the years. My new book, The Body Mechanic, which took five years to complete, is a guide and motivational book for all families hoping to pursue a healthy lifestyle,” he explained.

The book covers Martin’s life story including details of his boxing, movies, modelling, family, bodybuilding, anti-drug campaigns and much more. It also includes a male or female training DVD with each book. This gives people a healthy grocery list and daily eating plans to help to guide everyone to a healthier body for 2018, making it a great gift for the New Year also!

“My new year’s resolution is to hopefully motivate and encourage all families living in the South to follow my example by exercising daily and eating healthier, and they will be rewarded with a healthier body,” he said.

At age 53 there’s no stopping Martin DeWee. He believes that age is just a number and God willing he hopes to still have a healthy and good looking body through daily exercising and healthy eating for many more years to come.
