Healing for body, soul and spirit

HARVEST Christian Fellowship held its first harvest Sunday for 2018 on January 7 and its usual families were blessed with groceries and vouchers to start off the New Year on a good note.

Noelle Sadler (founder and elder at Harvest Christian Fellowship) spoke to the CHRONICLE and explained how the harvest Sundays, formally known as the benevolent fund, works. It began about ten years ago and has been blessing families ever since. The dedicated team of the benevolent fund ensures that the boxes consisting of the groceries and a pocket of potatoes are packed every month.

“We believe that God has called us to be the Pool of Bethesda which is a healing pool for the spirit, soul and body. We are also called to be a lighthouse to bring light and direction to our community. One of the ways we do that is through helping those within our ministry who have hit hard times, to find some reprieve,” said Noelle.

The benevolent fund is a ministry where only fresh produce is brought to the church and distributed to those members who have been screened and approved to receive assistance for a three-month period at a time. They also receive Pick n Pay vouchers to assist them.

“We have been doing that for the past ten years and our goal is to see these people being able to fish for themselves – ultimately! Many have received from the benevolent fund for a while and then began to pay it forward,” concluded Noelle.

The congregation of Harvest Christian Fellowship brings in the produce to add to the boxes that the church organises. If you would also like to contribute to this good cause then you are welcome to drop off whatever you have at the church on Tehore Street in Mulbarton on the first Sundays of every month. The extra food items that do not go into the boxes are given to the Shalom orphanage in Heidelberg.
