Making rainbows out of dark clouds

She is offering art therapy classes to not only make a living but also to help people deal with emotional pain and loss.

SAMANTHA CLOUD lost her job earlier this year and now she is trying to make the best out of a bad situation by offering art therapy classes to not only make a living but also to help people deal with emotional pain and loss.

MOSAIC: You can make your own mosaic art in one of Samantha’s all-inclusive classes – you get to keep it afterwards, too.

Samantha (30) has been married to Ian for a year and they are raising three children together. Before Samantha lost her job and studied art therapy, she worked as a personal assistant in a corporate company. Needless to say, her life has taken a 180-degree turn over the past few months. She discovered that she has a passion to help people through art therapy as it is an effective way to deal with pain, grief and stress. She also loves to do arts and crafts, so in this way she combines her love for art with her love for helping others. She now has her own new business called Artify My World.

PAMPHLET: This pamphlet gives examples of the services that Artify My World offers.

“The best part of doing this for a living now is to see someone who is going through immense sadness or stress leave from the class with some relief in their hearts,” says Samantha.

She herself went through a difficult time when she lost her father. He was her biggest inspiration. “He always made stuff happen and he was always there for everyone,” said an emotional Samantha. “He put everyone first except himself. He was a selfless man who brightened up any room as soon as he walked in.”

Keeping herself busy with arts and crafts was her way of dealing with her grief after losing her father. That was when she realised that she wanted to take it more seriously and take an art therapy course in the Free State. “I went through a rough time, but I made the best out of it and decided to turn my sadness into something great.”

CRAFTY: Make your own slime, candle or paint your own door hanger. The arts and crafts possibilities are endless!

She wishes to inspire people who feel as if they’ve reached their end; as if life is pointless. She wishes to inspire people who have lost someone dear and are in need of a way to cope with it all. She knows it is a challenge to get people to open up to her, but it is a challenge she gladly accepts.

Samantha wants to give a special message of encouragement to the readers: “To be positive, to believe in yourself and to not give up are the three best qualities to have to help you through any difficult situation. And remember – everything happens for a reason.”

There are plenty of creative things you can do in one of Samantha’s classes and, contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be a “creative person” to enjoy it and make something beautiful.

There is painting, 3D-painting, mixed media, mosaic, candle making, pewter, decoupage, clay modelling and so many other creative activities to choose from! All you have to do is arrange an appointment with Samantha and she will provide all details needed.

MIXED MEDIA: This lovely work of art was made in one of Samantha’s elderly classes.

She is available for children’s parties and other events and she has two weekly all-inclusive classes – one for elders and one for children.

The elderly class takes place on Thursdays from 10am to 11.30am and costs R150 per person, whereas the children’s class takes place on Saturdays from 10am to 12noon and costs R200 per person.

Samantha hopes to pique the interest of nursery schools too. If you are a part of a nursery school and think it would be a good idea to start a partnership with Artify My World, please contact Samantha.

PEWTER: Samantha created this work of art from a flat piece of metal. This type of art is known as pewter.
