Gearing for a safer festive season

The aim of the campaign was to warn the community about trio crimes and theft out of motor vehicles.

TRIO CRIMES (robbery, carjacking and business robbery) are on the rise this festive season around Joburg South. That is why the police embarked on a special crime awareness campaign, beginning on November 29.

Moffat View SAPS in conjunction with Cluster Johannesburg Central (Mondeor, Langlaagte, Sophiatown, Fairlands, Booysens and Brixton) went into various malls and complexes within the Moffat View policing precinct to assure the community that they are willing to fight these crimes.

The aim of the campaign was to warn the community about trio crimes and theft out of motor vehicles. The shoppers were also sensitised to bank- and ATM-related crimes.

Newly appointed station commissioner Colonel Lesley Lloyd said, “As the Moffat View Police we will strive to ensure that crime does not manifest itself in such a manner that it undermines the authority of the police in the area. We remain committed to creating a safe and secure environment during this festive season.”

He indicated that the station will continue to work hand in glove with the community policing forum (CPF). This is in line with the facilitation of the development of the National Crime Prevention Framework of the country.

“The aim is to both gain trust from the community and to secure their full commitment in the crime- fighting strategies of the station,” said Lloyd.
