Roberto is riding for recovery

Roberto has an official team entered for the 947 Ride for a Purpose Cycle Challenge with 22 members.

ROBERTO Ferreira is no stranger to the South. The Glenvista resident previously managed the Phoenix House Addiction Rehabilitation Centre in Sophiatown and is now the director of a non-profit company called The Recovery Foundation NPC, in Oakdene.

The core functions of The Recovery Foundation are to help people who are on the bottom end of society and those on the streets who are homeless and jobless.

Most of them have some sort of drug dependency issue. The Recovery Foundation takes those type of individuals off the streets into a rehab centre to get “clean” and then puts them into long-term reintegration programmes (such as halfway houses). They work on skills development, family reintegration services, basic coping skills and healthy living.

“We are working with the department of health and the department of social development to open a centre in Hillbrow (by early 2018) and a detox unit.

“We have started small and slowly we are gaining momentum. We also use various events during the year to raise awareness and funds, such as the 947 Cycle Challenge, Cape Town Cycle Tour, The Recovery Film Festival, a five-a-side football tournament and more,” said Roberto.

SUPPORT: The Recovery Foundation NPC always needs donations to help girls and boys.

947 Ride for a Purpose

Roberto has an official 22-member team entered for the 947 Ride for a Purpose Cycle Challenge, which is set to take place in mid-November. All donations and funding, be it financial, skills development opportunities or employment opportunities, are welcome and will go towards helping people get help to start their process of reintegration into society.

Roberto will be completing his sixth 947 Cycle Challenge, which is a full 94.7km cycle around greater Johannesburg. He opted to dedicate his 947 challenge to The Recovery Foundation as he has a passion for meeting the needs of individuals seeking recovery.

Any contribution to Roberto’s Cycle Challenge for a worthy cause is most welcome.

“The Recovery Foundation NPC always needs donations to help girls and boys. We challenge companies and individuals to donate. We can send companies forms for tax purposes,” said Roberto.
