A message stating that green bar coded ID booklets were coming to an end on March 31 shocked many on social media this week.
Home Affairs quickly took to social media and dismissed the allegation saying it was categorically confirming that the message was false.
In a statement the identity parastatal said: “The department of Home Affairs has noted a message in the social media space and wish to categorically state that it is false.”
Home Affairs dismissed the fake announcement.
It said the green barcoded ID book remains a legal form of identification.
The department was however processing a plan to phase out the green ID booklet.
Home Affairs confirmed the booklet was still valid until further notice.
