Truck rolls in Bassonia injuring four

Paramedics found a man, believed to be in his 30s, lying trapped inside the bakkie.

FOUR people were left injured this morning, one of them seriously, after a bakkie rear-ended a truck on the N12 highway in Bassonia.

ER24 paramedics, along with other emergency services, arrived on the scene to find a truck lying on its side in the right-hand lane.

Several gas canisters that the truck was carrying were found lying across the road.

The small bakkie was found lying approximately 20m away.

Paramedics found a man, believed to be in his 30s, lying trapped inside the bakkie.

Three other men were found walking around on the scene.

Assessments done by paramedics showed that the man inside the bakkie was in a critical condition, while the three other men had sustained only minor injuries.

According to ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring, rescue services had to use specialised equipment to free the trapped man from his vehicle.

Once freed, paramedics treated the men and provided the critically injured man with advanced life support interventions.

The critically injured man was airlifted by the ER24 helicopter to a nearby private hospital for urgent treatment.

The three other men were transported by ambulance to hospitals in the area for further treatment.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
