“I never expected this today, it’s a huge honour, thank you."

LETITIA Visser, owner of Sasol Swartgoud, Suideroord, was recognised by Protea Glen Secondary School in Soweto at an awards ceremony on November 1.

She received a certificate of appreciation for her support of the school and for her work in favour of the people of South Africa.

She was also presented with an award for Women’s Month, whereby the school saluted her for her outstanding achievements and contribution to the emancipation and upliftment of women in society.

“I never expected this today, it’s a huge honour, thank you. This school has always been close to my heart and I’m honoured to be associated with it.

“To the learners in this school, always remember that small steps become a thousand steps. Never, ever give up. We will fight for what you need in this school,” said Letitia.

HONOURING WOMEN: Chrusoula Papamalzis and Anibal Mondane (executive members of Philani Philani Community Development programme), José Nascimento, Phyllis Malope, founder and executive director of Philani Community Development programme, who also received awards for her work and commitment to Protea Glen Secondary School, Letitia Visser, principal Sokhela and HOD Sepadi Choeu.

Sepadi Choeu, HOD and CEO of the library and school, said Letitia does amazing work out of the goodness of her heart.

“She goes around trying to unite people through her good deeds. Thank you for all the good work you do in Johannesburg South and thank you for honouring our school today.”

José Nascimento, the school patron, said, “I’d like to thank the school principal, Mr T Sokhela, and all the teachers for hosting this event now at a difficult time, with the matriculants writing exams.

“I’m only a small part of the chain that makes this school so successful. It’s an honour today to be standing here while two great women are acknowledged for their good deeds.”

After the awards ceremony the school choir sang and refreshments were enjoyed.
