Twenty-five injured in taxi collision

Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries and provided the critically and seriously injured with advanced life support intervention.

A head-on collision between two taxis left 25 people injured this morning, October 27, on the R550 in Tedderfield, Eikenhof.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene and found both wrecked vehicles lying a short distance away from the road. Several people were found walking around on the scene.

Upon closer inspection, paramedics found that the driver of one of the taxis was trapped inside his vehicle. Two other patients were found seated inside the second vehicle. Twenty-two other patients were found either seated or lying around the vehicle.

Rescue services had to use the Jaws of Life to free the driver from the taxi. Having freed the driver, paramedics assessed the patients and found that one man had sustained critical injuries while four others had sustained serious injuries. Twenty others had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries and provided the critically and seriously injured with advanced life support intervention. Once treated, the patients were transported to various hospitals for urgent treatment.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
