Give or get a car seat for kids

Imperial Road Safety and the 947 Breakfast Club launched the 6th consecutive Car Seats for Kids campaign.

WITH October being National Transport Month, Imperial Road Safety rolled out its famous Car Seats for Kids Campaign in Johannesburg and Pretoria for the sixth year in a row.

October 20 was the day the Imperial and Wheel Well crew brought their collection drive to an end at The Glen Shopping Centre. During their travels throughout Johannesburg and Pretoria, the crew collected over 100 old car seats in commemoration of Transport Month.

Imperial and 947’s Breakfast Club marketed this impactful campaign once again, following previous successes.

“Since we first launched the Car Seats for Kids campaign in 2012, the outpouring of support we have received from residents in these regions has been overwhelmingly positive. Launching the campaign this year was an easy decision for us and we are excited to see what this year holds,” said Berenice Francis the Group Commercial Executive at Imperial.

During National Transport Month, Imperial aims to continue raising much needed awareness around child safety on South Africa’s roads, which continues to be of serious concern because research indicates that fewer than seven per cent of children travelling in cars are being buckled in. Imperial and 947 encourage the public to donate car seats.

Francis explained to the CHRONICLE that the seats will be restored and their safety will be checked by partner, Wheel Well, before being distributed to families who can’t afford a new one.

Peggy Mars is the founder of Wheel Well who sees this as an opportunity to work together with Imperial Road Safety to educate parents about the importance of buckling children up correctly.

The hand-over of the car seats to families who can’t afford a new one will take place over the course of a few months. Wheel Well has its store in Randburg and collects car seats throughout the year so if you still want to donate an old car seat, then feel free to do so. Contact them on 072 385 7121.
