Your views on matric farewells

Here are your views on the affordability of matric farewells.

The CHRONICLE took to the streets and shopping centres to ask locals about the affordability of matric farewells. Here are some of your views.

SYLVIA LEDIGA: “From a parent’s perspective it’s good for learners to be excited and have the opportunity to feel like royalty. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience and if parents can afford it, then why not?”
DOMINIQUE DA COSTA: “People spend between R15 000 to R20 000 on a new wardrobe, accessories, hair, flashy transport and the after parties where you still have to pay an entrance fee, for drinks and more clothes. I think the money can be saved and used in better ways.”
BULELWA AUGUST: “Sometimes children don’t need fancy dresses and make-up. If parents can afford it then it’s fine but they shouldn’t go overboard with cars and ball gowns and reward their children before getting their results.”
PRECIOUS MABHIKWA: “If children want to attend matric farewells then they should be able to go if it is financially possible. It depends on the child’s upbringing. They must learn to live within their means.”
