JMPD makes 19K nyaope bust

The man who remains in police custody was arrested after the drugs were found in his vehicle.

QUICK response by JMPD led to the arrest of a man in possession of nyaope with an estimated street value of R19 000.

The man will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court later this week for possession of nyaope.

City of Johannesburg MMC of public safety Michael Sun, who issued the statement, said JMPD pulled over a BMW 3 series in a routine ‘stop and search’ along Main Reef Road on September 11.

The man, who remains in police custody, was arrested after the drugs were found in his vehicle.

He has been detained at the Florida Police Station.

The MMC said it was the officials’ duty to keep residents safe and law enforcement would not rest until city streets were free of drug dealers.

He said drugs were often linked to a variety of social, psychological, financial and health issues, which were tearing communities apart.

“It is for this reason that the city remains committed to fighting crime and drugs plaguing our communities. We will do everything in our power to ensure that criminals cannot rest in Johannesburg and that residents are kept safe.”
