High school says goodbye to deputy principal

Before being appointed at Sir John Adamson Mr Du Toit taught at other schools, making a valuable contribution to education for over forty years.

SIR John Adamson High School deputy principal Mikkie du Toit retired after 23 years in the position.

Du Toit was appointed as deputy principal at the school in January 1994. He held this position until his retirement at the end of April this year.

During his time at the school, he made a valuable contribution in a number of areas. As a committed educator, he taught Guidance for a number of years. Life Orientation was then introduced and he was responsible for teaching this subject to Grade Ten, Eleven and Twelve learners.

He was initially involved in coaching girls hockey and with his passion for the game, the teams achieved good results. For many years he was the educator in charge of the Student Christian Association at the school. He was well-known for organising SCA camps and encouraged many learners to attend the camps. After every camp, the feedback from the learners was always positive and enlightening.

One of his important duties as the deputy was ensuring that the Code of Conduct was adhered to. If there were learners who had not complied, he spent many hours guiding and counselling where necessary. Many of the parents have expressed their gratitude to Du Toit because he was available to find solutions to challenges. His calm disposition enabled him to carry out these duties with distinction.

Before being appointed at Sir John Adamson, Du Toit taught at other schools, making a valuable contribution to education for over forty years.

The school wishes him and his wife Riette, who also retired at the end of April, everything of the best. They are going to be able to spend a great deal of quality time with their children and grandchildren. The school, the principal, SGB and the staff will miss Du Toit but he will have the opportunity to enjoy his retirement with his family.
