Miss Soweto reaches out to orphans

Each child was presented with backpack hampers containing White Star Instant Porridge to help them start the following day the right and other goodies.

MISS Soweto 2016, Nthabiseng Kgasi, from Protea Glenn in Soweto, celebrated her 22nd birthday on July 15 with 50 children from three different orphanages around Soweto at The Box Shop, in Vilakazi Street.

Nthabiseng celebrated with fun-filled activities for all. She also welcomed honoured guests, including e-TV’s Scandal actress Mapaseka Koetle-Nyokong as MC, her parents, Stephina and Apohlo Kgasi, and the representatives from the Thembelenkosini Children, Emdeni Drop-in Centre and Kliptown Youth Programme.

Demonstrating fun experiments to the youngsters was Nutty Scientists, led by artist instructor Kea Motlana, the granddaughter of late civic leader Dr Nthato Motlana.

Male a cappella group Mofolo Melodies entertained everyone with some soothing sounds.

The day was made possible by White Star Instant Porridge and other sponsors, The Couture Cake Company, who supplied cake and party sweets, and the Chesa Nyama franchise, who supplied delicious boerewors rolls and cold drinks.

Each child was presented with backpack hampers containing White Star Instant Porridge, to help them start the following day the right way, and other goodies.

“I have worked with the children from the orphanages and they hold a very special place in my heart and for this reason I decided that I wanted to connect with them on my special day. The very best birthday gift for me was seeing the joy on their faces as we played party games and enjoyed the incredible entertainment.

“By offering our youngsters opportunities to engage in the lighter side of life, we help them to imagine a brighter future for themselves. A big thank you to White Star and all sponsors involved,” said Nthabiseng.
