Awards evening acknowledges CPF members

Over 200 certificates were given to community forum volunteers from the various sectors, as well as to community members and businesses

COMMUNITY Policing Forum Mondeor Precinct held their first Recognition Dinner on Thursday evening, July 13, at Thaba Eco Hotel, where they handed out certificates of gratitude for 2017.

Over 200 certificates were given to community forum volunteers from the various sectors, as well as to community members and businesses who have made a difference within the Mondeor precinct.

The evening was attended by Col JJ Bezuidenhoudt (Mondeor station commander), SAPS management, SAPS sector managers, JHB Cluster chairperson Dr Gulam Karim, Chief Public Prosecutor Advocate Pumeza Futshane, Chief Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Andrew Chauke, JMPD Region F2 and G, Chubb, Fidelity ADT, SOS, SA Rangers and TPS Security.

“Thank you for joining our event, it means so much to the volunteers and myself,” said Michelle Pelser, organiser.

Col JJ Bezuidenhoudt from Mondeor Police Station welcomed everyone to the evening. “Thank you to all the voluntary members of the community forums for the work you do and for giving of your time. There is no value to time and you all bring so much to the community of the South. From the day you are born to the day you die, you will see a hyphen in between on the tombstone. This represents either the time you spent making a difference or not!

“Thank you also to the Victim Empowerment Counsellors and to all the families who support the CPF volunteers – they wait at home for you while you are out protecting the community.

“Last but by no means least, to Michelle Pelser and team, you play a huge part in our community, without you the South wouldn’t be what it is today. Thank you for everything you do.”

CELEBRATING: Dr Gulam Karim, Michelle Pelser, Col JJ Bezuidenhoudt, Taryn Porteous (Thaba Eco Hotel manager), Col Janet Madaray (Mondeor SAPS) and Imtiaz Mia.

Michelle was welcomed and said, “This is the first event of its kind and I’m sure it won’t be the last. The evening was a dream come true for me. I’d always wanted to organise an awards evening to show appreciation to all the CPF members and others in the community who work with us.”

“Special thanks to Reuben Louw and Marius Botes, co-owners of Thaba Eco Hotel, as well as Taryn Porteous, who went the extra mile in making the evening perfect from beginning to end, and Maxine Davids and Nicole Barkley for assisting.

“Thanks also to Sasol Garage Swartgoud, Kwikspar and Tops Ridgeway, Westpack Ridgeway, Mgwezi Consultants, Hi-Fi Corporation head office, WOW 4 U Events, Mondeor Homebake, Sinzinani Spa, Marissa Venter photographer and Rocket to Russia, who provided fantastic music, making the evening complete,” added Michelle.

Mike Fontes, chairperson of Sector One Community Forum, went on to add, “Thanks to the communities who work with SAPS, we are a safer community. We welcome the police, management and members into our community and they in turn welcome us. When we hear gunshots we run towards them, not away from them. We are very hands-on in our sectors and we will continue to fight crime.

THANK YOU: Michelle Pelser, Joe Mcube and Rachel Mcube.

“A quick word about Michelle. She is always there and always answers her phone to assist where she can. Deep down she has a hatred for criminals and will go the extra mile to have them arrested. She is always a lady in meetings and is never rude. When I look at what she has done this evening, I’m so thankful and proud of her. Thanks Michelle and team,” added Mike.

After all the certificates were handed out, Michelle ended the evening by thanking JJ and his team at Mondeor Police Station, “We can only become stronger with you by our side. Thank you to the sector managers and volunteers, also to Johannesburg Metro Police Department members, security companies and the VSU (Victim Support Unit), a huge thanks.

“And definitely not forgetting Joe Ncube, our MC who stepped in at short notice, you are a super star,” said Michelle.

“Thanks to everyone for attending our first Recognition Gala dinner, a huge thank you to Linda Facrie for assisting with the beautiful certificates and to everyone who helped make this event a success.

“Also to our CPF Mondeor Precinct Committee, Fred Dekker Sector Three chairperson, Mike Fontes Sector One chairperson and all the volunteers in the three sectors for everything you do for our community, keep up the fight against crime.”
