Cake bosses of the South

The ‘Christmas in July’ was a first for Gauteng and the Wits South Branch for the Cake Decorators Guild hopes that it will become an annual event to build interest in the sugar craft industry.

THE Wits South Branch of the Cake Decorators’ Guild recently hosted a first-ever ‘Christmas in July’ with accomplished decorators, teachers and judges Rachelle Meskin, Eleanor Casey Mary Marques, Isabel Marques and Ursula Tizzone sharing their expertise.

REALISTIC: Many of the cakes looked realistic.

The workshop was held on July 15, at the St Paul’s United Church in Mulbarton and everyone went home with finished items made at the workshop. A lot of time and thought was spent and many hours of preparation went into this day which allowed fellow sugar craft lovers to share their ideas.

DETAILED: One of the detailed cakes.

The team of the South branch thanks its generous sponsors who helped make the day possible.

Thank you to the following sponsors:

Pick ‘n Pay Meadowlands for supplying the food, vegetables and lunch; Mondeor Homebake for providing necessary items and sugar paste for all the Workshops; Jem Cutters for providing gift cutters and lucky draws for the visitors, Jo Al for the equipment raffled on the day, and Huletts for supplying recipe booklets.

COOKIES: There were also Christmas cookies at the ‘Christmas in July’ workshop.

This was a team effort by committee members and members of the Wits South branch who spent many hours of preparing the event. Everybody – from those working in the kitchen to those who supplied the delicious bakes for tea – helped to make it a perfect day for all.

The South branch welcomes visitors to join their meetings on the third Saturday of each month. For more information contact Eleanor Casey (chairperson) on 083 268 4588. Their next meeting will be held on August 19 at St. Paul’s United church where a demonstration will be presented on how to paint on cakes.

ART: Many of the cakes were intricately done.
