Gardeners to visit aloe garden

Interested in gardening and everything it entails? Why don't you join the Johannesburg South Garden Club? They hold two meetings every month.

ON Saturday, July 15 the Johannesburg South Garden Club (JSGC) members will be visiting the garden of Syd Millar in Glenanda, to view his aloes, as well as the rest of his garden.

Members will meet at Rob and Wendy’s home at 68 Vorster Avenue, Glenanda, at 9.30am. From there, lifts will be organised and cars will proceed to Mr Millar’s home.

On Tuesday, July 25, the meeting will be held at The Winning Room, Queenshaven Retirement Village, 64 Outspan Road, South Hills, at 10am. Guest speaker Jonathan Leeming will speak on sustainability.

Refreshments at this meeting will take the form of soup and rolls. If you are able to provide a pot of soup for this meeting, please contact Wendy Winter on 072 688 6871 or 011 682 2450.

Forthcoming event

The annual In Tune With Nature presentation at Garden World takes place on Saturday, August 26, starting at 1.30pm. Once again, Sakata (Mayfords Seeds) will be a major contributor and the musical content will be coordinated by Richard Cock. The ever popular gardener and TV presenter Tanya Visser will also bring her knowledge and own brand of humour to the event. Seats, which must be pre-booked at a cost of R100 each, can be reserved by emailing magriet@gardenworld.co.za or by phoning 011 957 5955 and speaking to Magriet, who will then advise you on how to make payment.

Please note that while this event is not an official JSGC meeting or outing, it promises to be a good afternoon’s entertainment and will be well worthwhile attending. It has been very well received and attended in the past – hence the need to pre-book.

If you would like to attend any of the meetings or outings and are interested in becoming a member of this garden club, please phone Rob on 072 688 6871 or 011 682 2450, or Jenny Richardson on 079 777 1116.
