Who is responsible for water meter leaks?

“Always check after a water leak if your own insurance policy will cover costs, before paying out any money,” added Clr Wissler.

WARD 23 councillor Sarah Wissler spoke to the Comaro CHRONICLE reporter about water meter leaks and who is responsible.

“I address many issues surrounding water meters and water leaks. If the pipe to the water meter comes from your property, the homeowner is responsible for having it fixed. If the leak is from the water meter to outside the property (towards the paving/road) it’s the City’s responsibility.

“Likewise if you have a main steel manhole on your property (sewage pipe) and it bursts inside your property, once again you are responsible. Outside your property it’s the City’s responsibility.

“Always check after a water leak if your own insurance policy will cover costs, before paying out any money,” added Clr Wissler.
