Church dishes out soup at hospital

Charnay Sargent from the church thanked the congregation of the church who donated the soup to make a small difference in lives of someone less fortunate.

WARM, hearty, thick and really tasty meat and vegetable soups were handed out to anyone who passed by South Rand Hospital on May 6.

This great gesture was arranged by the youth group from the Gereformeerde Kerk Johannesburg South. The day was a great success as the youth was able to fill the hungry stomachs of about 150 people of all ages and from all walks of life.

GOOD CAUSE: Volunteers from the church gave soup to the patients at the casualty section of the hospital.

Some of the volunteers also took soup to the weak, sick and injured patients waiting to see a doctor at the casualty section of the hospital. Family and friends of patients also took soup for their loved ones, at least ensuring one healthy meal for the day.

Charnay Sargent, from the church, thanked the congregation who donated the soup to make a small difference in lives of someone less fortunate.

THANK YOU: Passers-by were given a bowl of soup outside South Rand Hospital.

“This community initiative will be repeated every first Saturday of every second month. The next soup kitchen, therefore, will take place on July 1, at 9am, in front of the South Rand Hospital. If anyone in the community wants to donate soup or blankets to distribute to the needy, contact me on 079 295 7047,” said Charnay.
