A lifetime of patient care

“It was quite something to close the practice in La Rochelle Medical Centre - so many memories,” said Ghirlando

FOR 42 years, La Rochelle Medical Centre, corner of Third Street and Johannesburg Road, La Rochelle, served the community of the South, finally closing its doors a few weeks ago and moving its doctors and staff to its sister practice at Eastcliff Medical Centre, 1 Satara Road, Eastcliff, Oakdene.

Sadly, coinciding with the merge, one of the doctors, Dr Colin Hyams, died due to ill health and he will be missed by his many patients and staff members.

“Such a gentleman, with a wonderful sense of humour,” was how one of his patient’s described him.

Dr Ghirlando, who worked alongside Hyams, said, “He was like a father to me. I’m going to really miss him.”

When the practice first opened its doors in La Rochelle, doctors Dr Israel Kopman and a young Dr Alec Khoury were there, later joined by doctors Brown, Ballendan and Hyams.

“It was quite something to close the practice in La Rochelle Medical Centre – so many memories,” said Ghirlando.
