BREAKING NEWS: JMPD officer killed in Eikenhof

The 44-year-old male driver of the vehicle was arrested on the scene and charged with culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving, at the De Deur Police Station.

CHARLES Radebe (32), a Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officer, was killed after being knocked over by a vehicle at about 16:45 on Wednesday, February 15.

The incident happened along the R554, just off the Old Vereeniging Road, near Eikenhof, where JMPD officers were actively involved with a stop-and-search operation.

It is reported that the driver of a recovery vehicle allegedly drove onto the wrong side of the road and collided with the officer, who was standing on the gravel verge.

Radebe, who resided in Dlamini, Soweto, is survived by his wife and young daughter.
