THE Joburg South Vidhya Shara Gujarati School has opened as of January 28 and welcomed around 30 pupils who attend weekly to learn a new language.
The founder of the school is Deeptesh Narandas, who is assisted by Mohini Jivanbhaga (administrator) and Jayna Narandas (assistant).
According to Narandas the school was started as a community initiative due to a dire need in the area, as a number of parents take their children to other areas on the weekend for classes.
“The school received an overwhelming response from the local community, with 25 children attending on the first weekend, and an additional three children on the second weekend,” said Narandas.
The classes run every Saturday from 11:00 to 12:30 at the Cuddle Inn 2 Nursery School on True North Road. There are two classes held, which are split by age.
The younger class consists of five- to eight-year-old learners, who are taught by Beenaben Vanmali; members of the older class, who are nine years and above, are taught by Lalitaben Bhaga.
The management team would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Ms Marieta Harmse of Cuddle Inn for the use of the facilities.
“We would also like to thank Mr Amish Kika for legal assistance and advice, Mr Nilesh Shiba for the accounting service and Mr Himal Devchand for the logo design. Finally, we thank the Gujarati community of the South for their support and confidence in this new initiative. This is a community project, and we welcome all members of the Gujarati community to contribute meaningfully to the growth and continued success of the school,” said Narandas.
