Praise for the class of 2016

The church contributes to building the lives of the youth and promoting social cohesion.

LEARNERS, parents, teachers, local government and the community came together for a full day’s celebration to mark the achievements of the South’s matrics of 2016 on Monday, January 23, at Crystal Church, Aeroton.

The morning started off with a mentoring session in the church conference facility, attended by learners, teachers and parents and various speakers, including community leader Paris Makaringe, SABC newsroom anchor Kendal Makgamathe, Mrs Commonwealth SA 2017 Lucy Peter, Dancer Jonty Stander and The Factory’s Xavier Hendricks.

They encouraged learners and teachers not to settle for only a matric qualification but to pursue higher qualifications and careers that will make them happy and bring value to the people around them.

The evening’s proceedings were met with loud cheers of celebration and also included a firm address by the Director of Sports and Special Co-Ordination in the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), Cedric Ranshod.

Author and motivational speaker Darren August was the master of ceremony. He grabbed the attention of the 1 600 capacity crowd from the moment the national anthem was sung right up until the senior pastor, Rev Carl Hendricks, delivered the vote of thanks and benediction, urging the GDE to continue striving for excellent results.

Ranshod thanked the church for its contribution to building the lives of the youth and promoting social cohesion.

“This church has some of the region’s most influential and educated people all under one roof and it speaks to the vision of where the senior pastor is taking its congregation. In the same way, we want to encourage the graduates to put a vision in place for their personal lives and go places others have not been,” he said.

Glenvista High’s Jimmy Yuan, who obtained nine distinctions, and principal Yolinda de Jong, took to the platform, with the crowd giving them a standing ovation. The school obtained a 99.2 per cent pass rate.
