Illegal ads on the increase

Legal advertising signs on street poles and the likes are indicated by a municipal sticker and those without this sticker are not legal.

WARD 56 councillor Michael Crichton has recently noticed an increase in the number of illegal advertisements that appear on trees, streetlights, stop signs, municipal walls and on traffic lights.

Crichton advises that placing advertisements without permission is in direct contravention of the municipal by-laws and can result in a fine being issued.

“Illegal advertisements are not only an eyesore, but also promote other illegal activities in the area. I have met with the city’s department that deals with the issue of illegal advertising and I am also going to meet with the JMPD. I urge residents to contact the JMPD when they see anyone putting up illegal advertising,” said Clr Crichton.

He adds that legal advertising signs on street poles and the likes are indicated by a municipal sticker and those without this sticker are not legal.
