ACCORDING to a Glenanda North resident, a Joburg Water team was repairing a burst water pipe on the corner of Amanda and Beryl avenues, about three weeks ago, and since then they haven’t been back to fill in the massive hole which is causing havoc for motorists who use these roads.
“This same water pipe has burst a few times before, often causing loss of water to households for hours. Surely there is something which can be done to sort it out once and for all,” she said.
Late on Monday evening, December 12, a motorist was driving down Amanda Avenue and ended up in the massive hole. “We were in bed and heard a loud bang, went outside and saw a vehicle tipped into the hole. A tow truck arrived not long after to pull the vehicle out. This isn’t the first time a car has driven by mistake into the gaping hole. At least two other vehicles have ended up in it,” said the irate resident.
For motorists coming out of Beryl Avenue who are turning left into Amanda Avenue, they have to swing right out into oncoming traffic to miss the hole, putting their lives at risk.
“The holidays are upon us and is this mess going to be fixed before then?” asks the resident.
