Clean-up operation begins in park

The park area, which could be a local beauty spot, has become a sight for sore eyes after rubbish and litter has been dumped in the spruit and along the banks. “This is a beautiful spot with a small waterfall and will make an ideal place for local residents to enjoy a walk by the spruit or even a picnic,” said Clr Wissler.

A TEAM of residents, along with Ward 23 councillor Sarah Wissler and Claire Theart from Crum (Citizens Relations and Urban Management), spent Saturday morning November 19 cleaning up Glenvista Spruit, near Vorster Avenue, Glenvista.

The park area, which could be a local beauty spot – has become a sight for sore eyes after rubbish and litter has been dumped in the spruit and along the banks. “This is a beautiful spot with a small waterfall and will make an ideal place for local residents to enjoy a walk by the spruit, or even a picnic,” said Clr Wissler.

The clean-up team managed to fill over fifty bags with rubbish including rubble, car parts, tyres and clothing – and there’s still more to pick up.

“I’d like to encourage local garden services to come on board and help us with tree trimming. Also, if local businesses can help by donating money – we can have the area fenced off, which will help keep the park area clean. This is a great way of giving back to the community and the more residents who can become involved, the better.

“Thank you to these residents who took time out of their busy weekend to come and clean-up today,” added Clr Wissler.

There will be more clean-up mornings organised and Clr Wissler is hoping Pikitup and City Parks may get involved too.

If you would like to offer your time or donations to help, phone Clr Wissler on 083 256 3453.
