Councillor excited to see residents becoming actively involved

Our fellow councillor really enjoyed having the opportunity to engage with the community

WARD 56 Councillor Michael Crichton held his first public meeting in The Hill recently. The community came out in large numbers to hear the keynote addresses by Crichton and Manny De Freitas, the member of parliament (MP) for Johannesburg South.

On Saturday, September 24, Crichton kicked off the first public meeting as the councillor of Oakdene, Linmeyer, The Hill, Townsview, Rosettenville, La Rochelle (First to Fifth streets), half of Towerby, Glenanda North, half of Gleneagles, and Eastcliff.

Crichton enjoyed having the opportunity to engage with the community and found it encouraging to see people who are willing to get involved in issues that affect their suburb.

“My vision is to start by improving the basics in the communities by ensuring that street lights are working, leaking water drains and meters are fixed, litter is collected and that the parks are maintained,” said Crichton.

De Freitas said that while the DA has only been in government for a month, he has already seen an improvement. “While there is still a lot that needs to be done, I can see for example that City Power is working for extended hours and this has not happened in many years,” said De Freitas.

They agreed that this was the first of many public meetings to come. For more information contact Crichton on 083 383 6366.
