Ward 23 councillor gets to work

“Vorster Park area will be targeted on November 19, with a huge clean-up, where community members as well as City Parks will be coming along to cut back trees and remove wattles. This area has been begging for attention for years,” she added.

SARAH Wissler, councillor for Ward 23, isn’t wasting any time getting things sorted out in her ward.
From organising clean-ups with Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), reporting potholes and trying to have builders’ rubble and rubbish cleared up in the ward, to addressing a broken water meter in Mulbarton, her schedule is hectic.

“The water meter on the corner of Saron and Meerlust roads, Mulbarton, has been broken for a few weeks with loss of water occurring, running down the road. I spoke to the drivers of the taxis across the road at the informal taxi rank and they did admit to having tampered with the water meter to gain access to clean water to drink. I suggested I ask for the water meter to be fixed and a tap to be put in so they can get access to water but they have to be responsible and look after it. They have said they will,” said Wissler.

Last week Wissler also met up with Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) at Builders Warehouse Glen Eagles. “The project we are embarking on will ensure the jobseekers who stand all along the outside entrance to Builders Warehouse are controlled without intimidating and/or harassing customers who enter the parking area.

“Short- and long-term objective and action steps have been set and currently most of these objectives have been reached and action plans implemented. Chaos outside the store will be turned into a well-organised and controlled shopping environment for the residents and staff.”

If you are interested in joining the clean-up at Vorster Park on Saturday, November 19, where there will be a get-together after the clean-up, please phone Wissler on 083 256 3453.

“Let’s get together and clean up the ward!”
