MONDEOR SAPS are investigating several cases of theft out of motor vehicle in its policing area and have cautioned motorists to be aware of their surroundings.
The modus operandi these criminals use is to point out to a driver that their car has a supposed flat tyre. This usually happens as a vehicle is approaching traffic lights and leaves the driver distracted as other suspects then break the car’s window to steal valuable possessions which have been left in plain sight.
Police are urging victims to report these thefts as their car will be fingerprinted and to also keep all proof of repair payments for damage caused.
Mondeor SAPS is urging motorists to keep doors locked, windows closed and personal belongings out of sight while driving and even when parked. In addition, police recommend parking in well-lit public areas and to avoid parking in secluded areas.
