Support the Lighthouse

The lighthouse needs funds to build a bigger facility and cater for more disabled children.

THE Lighthouse Centre in Linmeyer is in need of financial support to build a bigger facility and accommodate more intellectually challenged children and adults.

The centre was founded in 2003 by Luiza Nazareth as a non-profit organisation that will cater for the underprivileged intellectually challenged children and adults through its stimulation centre and its highly trained staff who provide personalised and professional care.

Debbie Viljoen, who invited the CHRONICLE to the centre, said the centre depends on funding to carry on its course and she hopes that people, organisations and companies can help the centre by donating whatever little they can afford to help the centre cater for those adults and children who need the help.

“We want to build or get a bigger property. As you can see, this one is becoming smaller by the day. There are a lot of children and adults we want to help and a bigger facility can make that dream possible. We get more calls to take in more people but unfortunately, because of space, we are unable to do so.

“The Lighthouse Centre provides training in life skills that promotes confidence, self-worth and self-respect. The arts and crafts classes are customised according to individual’s unique abilities. These classes are varied to inspire interest and creativity. Adults with higher functioning capabilities may partake in cooking classes, first aid, leadership skills and trade skills instruction,” she said.

Support and education are also on offer to families and it empowers them with skills on how to look after the unique needs of their loved ones. The philosophy of the centre is based on values and precepts that welcome all people from all walks of life.
