Former MEC’s house burns

Former MEC for Public Transport's home suffered a fire on Wednesday, July 20.

FORMER Gauteng MEC for Transport Khabisi Mosunkutu was surprised by the fire that burnt his Johannesburg South home in the morning of Wednesday, July 20, just before 08:00.

The cause of the fire is still not determined but Nina Radebe from the Gauteng Emergency Services informed the Southern CHRONICLE that investigators were still due to go back to the property for further investigations as they could not determine the source of the fire because of the extent of the damage.

Public servant Mosunkutu and his children were all well and unharmed when the CHRONICLE arrived. But furniture in five rooms were destroyed and the walls were covered in soot.

Mosunkutu’s children and neighbours all joined forces to fight the fire as it was eating the walls, furniture and roof of the house. Firefighters also arrived to help put out the fire and used water from the water hydrant to extinguish the fire that wreaked havoc on the house for three hours.
