Take on the challenge – buy a brick for hospice

This project aims to raise funds for Stepping Stone’s planned extension to its existing in-patient unit in New Market Park.

STEPPING Stone Hospice & Care Services launched its “Help Us Build, Brick by Brick” project on Thursday, July 7 at an information evening held at Reading Country Club.

This project aims to raise funds for Stepping Stone’s planned extension to its existing in-patient unit in New Market Park. The 546sqm extension has been necessitated by the ever-increasing demand for hospice care, care that is also needed more and more among young people.

Says CEO, Tersia Burger, “Our goal is to raise R3.5 million, of which R1.6 million has already been raised. It is a fact that almost each and every one of us has been affected in some way or another, by another person suffering from a life-limiting illness. Our unit currently has eight wards, two of which can cater for long-term patients. However, we want to add on family rooms, in other words, wards which can cater for a family member to sleep over with his/her beloved one, especially in cases where the patients are very young.”

Partnering with Stepping Stone is the Alberton RECORD, SCS Architects and Coenbuild and they appeal to all businesses and individuals to participate, whether through a financial contribution or assistance with building materials. Your contribution will be acknowledged via publicity in the Alberton RECORD, the 4m x 3m signboard facing the Newmarket Mall intersection and a brick that will be placed in a glass wall in the new section.
