SAPS launch manhunt for three murder suspects

SAPS have launched a manhunt for three suspects who shot and killed a 66-year-old man in Meredale.

THE Gauteng police have launched a manhunt for three suspects who shot and killed a 66-year-old man in his Meredale home before fleeing the scene with valuables and a vehicle, on Wednesday, July 13, around 01:30. Police later recovered the stolen vehicle in Eldorado Park.

ER24 reported the death of the elderly man to have been in the early hours of the morning as their paramedics found him with injuries to his head, and sadly there was nothing they could do to save him. ER24 stated that the elderly man was believed to have died trying to defend his family, including three children, who were all left unharmed according to paramedics.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo informed the CHRONICLE that the son of the deceased heard a gunshot coming from his father’s bedroom and when he rushed to his father’s aid, a firearm was pointed at him. The suspects reportedly ransacked the house.

This is another incident in the South where an elderly has been harmed and killed in their home by people who had intentions to rob the property.

Meanwhile, Queenshaven Old Age Home hosted an event in South Hills in June to educate residents of the south about the importance of protecting and caring for the elderly during an elderly abuse awareness campaign.
