Johannesburg Metrobus strike continues

Johannesburg Metrobus drivers are still on strike.

JOHANNESBURG Metrobus drivers are still on strike and the bus company said all routes have been shut down.

Metrobus said they had experienced demonstrations last Friday, July 8, at their head office in Braamfontein and bus drivers did not show up for work.

They advised commuters to use other modes of transport.

According to EWN, the company’s managing director, André van Niekerk, said a union representing the drivers is unhappy about shift allocations.

Van Niekerk added that the issue was being resolved and he was confident buses would be back to full operation by this afternoon.

He also apologised for the inconvenience.

“The demonstrating employees have blocked Enoch Sontonga Road, which passes Metrobus head office,” he said.

“We are also expecting service disruption this afternoon, affecting our afternoon trips.

“We regret this unfortunate situation and request that our commuters consider alternative transport this afternoon. We will advise of further developments during the day,” Ester Dreyer from the Metrobus communications department advised.
