A blessing after tragedy

Pieter and Nicole are expecting again.

JUST two months after the passing of their premature baby, Hayley Meyer, Pieter (21) and Nicole (22) Meyer have been blessed with another miracle.

The couple announced on social media, on Thursday, June 30, that they are expecting again.

According to the soon-to-be parents they did a home pregnancy test which was negative, before Nicole went for a blood test.

“I don’t know how to explain it, but I just knew that I was pregnant,” she said.

They told the CHRONICLE they were not planning to get pregnant again this soon, but that they were open to it.

“We are excited, happy and also nervous; we take it day-by-day and we try to stay positive,” the couple, who wed on March 17, said.

Nicole said she is between five to six weeks pregnant and this time she will visit her doctor more regularly. She is also drinking blood thinners and hormone pills to ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy.

So far Nicole has experienced only morning sickness.

The couple is hoping for a healthy baby and don’t care if it’s a boy or a girl.

“If it’s a boy we are in a little trouble, because we have everything pink at the moment,” a laughing Pieter said.

The due date for Hayley was actually on July 13.

“I went into labour without knowing it on April 1, and Hayley was born on April 4, at 25 weeks, in the Clinton Hospital, after an emergency C-section,” said Nicole.

Their little angel child had the whole world’s attention for the two weeks she lived, but lost her battle on April 18.

Pieter said Hayley’s death brought him and his wife closer to God.

“Faith got us through this and it is faith that made us stronger,” he said.

The two are celebrating their one-year anniversary on August 12.

Nicole grew up in the South and Pieter has been staying here for eight years.

The Facebook group, A Test of Faith, is now going to be a non-profit organisation that helps babies, children and parents financially and emotionally.

“The group helped and supported us in many ways and we feel like this group was created for a reason,” the couple said.

The Meyers are just waiting for the NGO registration number.
