Grade two girls raise money for the SPCA

For three weeks they sold R5 tickets once a week at break to their fellow learners in grades one, two and three.

TWO eight-year-old girls from the King David Linksfield Junior School, Sophie Hodes and Jade Robinson, decided they wanted to raise money for the animals at SPCA. Using their initiative, they arranged a wonderful prize (a one night stay including breakfast and dinner as well as theme park tickets, movie tickets and tenpin bowling), which Tsogo Sun’s Gold Reef City kindly sponsored,

The girls also organised a few other smaller prizes to give excited children a few extra chances to win something.

For three weeks they sold R5 tickets, once a week during break at school, to their fellow learners in grades one, two and three. The girls raised such a high level of excitement and awareness for the SPCA and the prize that the response was a phenomenal R4 500 raised.

The Sandton and Eastern Metro SPCA aims to prevent the cruelty to animals and to provide a place of safety and care for all animals in distress. SPCA work encompasses all animals, including wildlife, equine and farm animals, marine life and animals used for experimentation. It is a non-profit organisation not funded by government, and relies on the public for financial support.
