There were celebrations and good cheer aplenty with the release of the 2016 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show results at the Mount Nelson Hotel. Gold medal counts were significantly higher than in 2015, with a better spread across a number of classes.
There were 1 067 entries, from which the nine judges awarded 509 bronze, 113 silver and 35 gold medals. There were 21 trophy winning wines and 27 trophies overall.
This year’s winner of the Old Mutual trophy for the show’s most successful producer was Delaire Graff Estate – a frequent presence on the medal and trophy winner’s podium but a first time recipient of the coveted award.
