Man dies after bridge floods

ER24 paramedics were called to the scene after reports were received of a man being washed down river

A MAN, believed to be about 50 years old, died on Monday afternoon (May 16), when he was swept off the bridge on Eisenhower Street in Klipriver, outside Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics were called to the scene after receiving reports about a man being washed down river.

“Upon arrival, paramedics found the low-water bridge flooded. An ATV, or quad-bike, was found lying in the rushing water and there was no sign of the driver,” said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

Search and rescue teams were called to the scene to assist in the search for the man and a few hours later his body was found some distance down river. Unfortunately, the man had succumbed to his multiple fatal injuries and was declared dead on scene.

It is believed that the man attempted to cross the flooded bridge on his ATV when he was swept away. Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
