Successful golf day for brave Ayden

A GOLF day for Ayden van der Merwe was held at Reading Country Club on Thursday, April 14

A GOLF day for Ayden van der Merwe was held at Reading Country Club on Thursday, April 14.

Ayden (7) and his parents, Albert and Michelle, received bad news on January 22 when Ayden was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoma.

While receiving chemo treatment it affected his pancreas and led to him becoming diabetic. His body also didn’t respond well to the last treatment and his kidneys were hurt in the process. He is currently being cared for in hospital.

Ayden has been in and out of hospital ever since he was diagnosed with cancer and the medical bills are running high.

“We are holding a charity golf day to help with the medical bills, so that his parents have one less thing to stress about. Ayden is a fighter and we have faith that God will be there every step of the way holding him and his family close to Him,” said Bianca Smith, one of the organisers of the golf day.

The golf day was a four-ball event which included lunch/dinner and a prize giving.

Forbtech, an IT solutions company, was one of the biggest contributors to the event. “This is all thanks to the combined efforts of our customers, all the organisers and co-sponsors,” said owner of Forbtech, Wayne Mellett.

“We get so stuck in this daily grind of chasing money, I think it’s important to do something good and selfless for others,” he added.

“The event raised R112 000!” said an excited Antoinette Kruger, one of the organisers.
