Premature baby fights for her life

Hayley Meyer, a baby born at 25 weeks is fighting to survive in the Netcare Clinton Hospital in Alberton.

HAYLEY Meyer, a baby born at 25 weeks, is fighting to survive in the Netcare Clinton Hospital in Alberton.

The baby was scheduled to be born on July 14, but when complications arose, doctors were forced to perform an emergency caesarean section, and she made her way into this world around 19:00 on April 4.

Hayley was born weighing around 600g and even lost a little weight, as there were further complications, namely not being able to get milk into her system, according to her 21-year-old father, Pieter Meyer. “She is stable, but she was put on a ventilator to help her breathe, and her kidneys are under a lot of pressure, so it’s not going so well at the moment,” said the distraught father.

Mother, Nicole Meyer (21), and her husband have to go home and come back every day to see how their baby is doing, which is quite a stressful experience, but they say they have complete faith in the doctors and that God is keeping them strong.

The CHRONICLE will continue to keep an eye on the status of Hayley and will keep readers updated accordingly.
