On Saturday, May 28, at the CMP LIVE Studio venue in Hillfox, Johannesburg, a radio broadcast master class will be presented by Cool Music Productions (CMP), with programming specialist and presenter, Ernest Pillay, in association with broadcast equipment specialists, Prosound.

This comprehensive one-day programme will cover aspects of broadcast applicable to presenters, producers and technicians/operators within the radio environment.

Tumelo Maimela is a broadcast specialist at Prosound and has been working with community radio stations throughout South Africa, providing them with much-needed technical support. “Ongoing training to community radio station practitioners is very important to Prosound, and we have found that there is a lack of skills development in many of these stations where most presenters and operators started as volunteers with no background in broadcast,” says Maimela.

Prosound has partnered with CMP, whose LIVE Studio venue in Johannesburg serves as a facility for radio broadcast and production, in presenting this comprehensive master class on advancing the skill sets of those engaged in radio production. The programme will include a seminar from Prosound’s technical director and sound design authority, Mark Malherbe, covering audio theory relating to radio broadcast. Everything from frequency patterns to pickup response will be covered, after which the broadcast team from Prosound will take participants through the audio chain in a studio set-up.

Pillay will draw on his extensive experience and impart invaluable knowledge on radio presenting and content management. “Being a presenter on radio is more than just pressing buttons and reading into a microphone. Your professionalism on air reflects on the entire station. Streamlining the on-air process can create a polished production that will create a voice for the community and attract investors,” says Pillay.
