Mulbarton Remedial School

MULBARTON Remedial is an excellent independent primary school with an outstanding record of past learners who have matriculated at a variety of schools. It and is situated on Bellairs Drive, opposite the Glenvista Shopping Centre.

Mulbarton Remedial School was opened in 2004 at the request of 16 parents who struggled to find a suitable remedial school in the South of Johannesburg for their children. Since then, the school has grown to 112 children from grades 1 to 7. A major part of the school’s ongoing success are the dedicated, caring teachers and teachers’ assistants who nurture, believe in and educate every child to be the very best they can be despite challenges the child may face.

Classes are small, having between eight and 13 learners, to enable remediation to take place during lessons. Learners receive individual attention during class time so that they are able to manage the work. As a result, many of the children are able to re-enter mainstream education where they continue to do well. Other children move to remedial, technical or vocational high schools, depending on what type of school would best meet their particular needs. Mulbarton Remedial has developed many learners who have gone on to become leaders at their new schools. Some of the school’s oldest learners are currently attending university, college or are already in the workplace, where again they are successful in their chosen field. One of the most amazing aspects about Mulbarton Remedial is how many of its past learners and parents still keep in touch with the school.

In addition to the academic programme, the school offers pottery as part of the art curriculum, participates in the annual Alberton Eisteddfod, and has athletics, cross-country, soccer, netball, mini-cricket, chess and a baking club as extramurals. Mulbarton Remedial’s chess team has consistently been the top team in the area, with individual players being selected to represent Gauteng at the Chess Nationals over the past five years. The 2015 cross-country team had three runners compete at regional level and the athletics team has had shot-put athletes represent Johannesburg South for the past two years.

Learners are referred to Mulbarton Remedial by mainstream schools in the area or through therapists and psychologists. As a result, places at the school fill up very quickly. Currently there are still a few openings in grades 1 and 2 for 2016. Enrolments for grade 1 in 2017 open on April 20 and the school can be contacted on 011 432 6272 or admin@mulbartonremedial.co.za for further enquiries.
