R6 000 prize money up for grabs at new Gandhi Fun Run

Walkers should not despair as the first three winning male and female will be awarded trophies and congratulatory prizes as well, but not cash.

THE Gandhi Walk Committee is providing solid motivation for winners of the 31st annual Gandhi Walk and Fun Run, which takes place on Sunday, April 17.

The event, which starts and finishes at Gandhi Hall, 29 Impala Crescent, Extension 5, in Lenasia, honours Ahmed Kathrada. The 12km Fun Run will commence at 09:00, the 12km walk at 09:15 and the 6km walk at 09:30.

The first three winning male and female runners participating in the new 12km Fun Run will be awarded trophies, as well as a total of R6 000 in prize money. The first placed male and female winners will be awarded R1 500 each, the second male and female will receive R1 000 each, and the third male and female will receive R500 each.

Walkers should not despair, as the first three males and females in their category will be awarded trophies and congratulatory prizes, but not cash. This event has now grown to become Lenasia’s biggest and most vibrant walk, south of Joburg

“Since this is the inaugural Fun Run in Lenasia, organised by the Gandhi Walk Committee, which has earned a stellar reputation for successfully hosting the fun walks for the past 30 years, it is time we welcome runners to join in and, with our sponsor, Truro Shipping, we are able to put up prize money to attract runners from all over Gauteng to participate,” says Gandhi Walk Committee chairman, Amit Parbhucharan.

T-shirts will be given to the first 3 000 participants crossing the finish line and many spot prizes will be handed out.

There will also be a grand raffle draw, with amazing prizes to be given away, including a getaway for two at the Wild Coast Sun resort.

Tickets for the raffle are available at any Computicket outlet nationwide, as well as at any Shoprite, Checkers and Checkers-Hyper store, or register online at www.gandhiwalk.org.za. Numbers will be available for purchase on the morning of the event, at the late-entry tent at Gandhi Hall.
