Armed robbery in Glenvista

A senior citizen and his four contract workers were held up at his Vista Drive home, Glenvista after four armed men pulled up in a black BMW, on Wednesday March 30.

According to the son of the senior citizen, his father and one of the contract workers arrived at the house at about 11:00. “My dad went straight into the house while his worker began to unload the bakkie. Seconds later a black BMW 3 series drew up outside the house with four men armed with guns.

“The four men took the worker into the house and made the other three and my dad lay down on the floor. Their hands were all tied up with cable ties. They took my dad’s cell phone, wallet and bakkie keys. One of the armed men looked through my dad’s wallet and asked him where the rest of the money was, he told him there wasn’t any more money. The man then kicked my dad in his face,” he told the Comaro CHRONICLE reporter.

The four suspects fled the house. “They tried to take the bakkie but it has a steering lock, so maybe they thought they may not have time to get it open,” said the son.

“My dad ran out of his house and to a neighbour to call me on my phone. I live close by so arrived within a minute. My dad was badly shaken up and had lost a tooth in the attack. I phoned the police and they arrived quickly. A D&D patrol vehicle was driving past so I flagged them down.”

The senior citizen was taken to Mulbarton Hospital for medical treatment.

According to the son, his dad is renovating his home. “We do worry about loiterers who sit along Vista Drive under trees, doing nothing but watching life go by. I’ve phoned Mondeor SAPS a few times to report the loiterers but I’ve been told they are allowed to sit on the pavements as it is municipal property.”

A resident of Vista Drive was on the scene and said he drove past the house which was targeted at about 10:45 and saw a black BMW parked across from the house on the veld next to the scout hut. “There were definitely three men in the vehicle, could have been four, and the front seat passenger put his head down when I drove past. I was going slow as I’d just come round the bend and I did think it was a bit suspicious but often there are vehicles parked there and always men sitting under trees in the vicinity.

“I’m very concerned about this. They sit there all day. What are they actually doing other than watching what’s going on?
