Boy saves a baby abandoned in the bushes

This 11-year-old boy heard a baby crying in the bushes, found a baby boy and carried him to his friend's house.

ON the only day 11-year-old Mnqobi Dlamini decided to skip church, he saved an abandoned one-week-old baby dumped in the bushes of Winchester Hills.

On Sunday, February 28, Mnqobi decided to rather pay his friends a visit and on his way there he heard a noise, clearly audible above the music he was listening to over his earphones.

He took off his earphones and realised that it was an infant crying and there on the corner of Frangipani and Leadwood streets, he found a baby boy wrapped in a blanket in the bushes.

With his father, Nkosinathi Dlamini not at home, he decided to carry the baby to his friend’s home and called officers from the Mondeor police to the home.

“People cheered at the youngsters and one woman even cried,” his father proudly told the CHRONICLE.

“As his parents, we immediately shared the story of Mnqobi’s journey on our Facebook pages and people commented and saluted our son for his courage and for saving a life. He is so concerned about the baby now. He wants to know where the baby is and if he is well taken care of. We tried to go and see the baby but it is not possible at the moment as the baby is up for adoption, and during that process, Child Social Services cannot allow us to see him. But we are very happy regardless and we know we will see him someday,” said the proud father.

Facebook comments on the story:

Rejoice Ndhlovu: We give all the glory to our God who uses if even a child to fulfil his purpose. Amen.

Toyi Dlamini: We call him hero now.

Mfanafuthi N Blose: Wow, we thank God, friends.
