Eikenhof Women’s Institute members enjoyed at talk at their February meeting given by Minnie Pienaar, about her work in informal settlements in Eikenhof.
SUIDEROORD – Minnie said she was brought up on a Tobacco Farm with very Christian parents, “I think I was born with a bible in my hands,” she laughed.
Her life was graciously filled with everything wonderful and it was only later in her marriage that things became a little rocky and she had to become used to far less and even lived on a caravan park for a while.
“After living in a huge home with everything I could desire, a caravan home really brought me down to earth and it was only then I realised many, many people were living in poverty and I decided I wanted to help as many as I could,” she said.
Her missionary work in the informal settlements began to make a difference and she also opened a few crèches for the underprivileged children.
Now she’s very involved with some of the seniors in Soweto and is trying to organise outings for them. “Many are lonely and enjoy seeing others, even if only for a cup of tea and a chat.
“From my young days to now I’ve changed a lot but one thing has been constant in my life, my Lord. He won’t ever let you down, even though sometimes you think He’s not working within your life, He is, but in His time not yours,” added Minnie.
