Celebrate World Spay Day

The costs to the AACL for these sterilizations, will be covered by a generous grant received from a Trust Fund.

WORLD Spay Day is traditionally the last Tuesday in February each year. This year, Animal Anti-Cruelty League Johannesburg will be celebrating this important day on Tuesday, February 23.

For 2016, AACL have decided to focus on feral cats. AACL will be working with other feral cat volunteers in the community and assisting them with the sterilisation of their feral cats, as well as feral cats from the feral cat project.

Sterilisation ensures that feral cats live longer and healthier lives. The feral cats assist the community by keeping the rodent population down. Feral cat colonies become stable once the breeding is controlled, which also decreases the pressure on welfare organisations and community volunteers from having to find new homes for kitten litters.

On February 28, Animal Anti-Cruelty League will celebrate its 60th year caring and protecting animals, educating the public about responsible pet ownership and offering primary healthcare services to communities in need. On World Spay Day they are aiming to sterilise 60 feral cats for the community. The costs to the AACL for these sterilisations will be covered by a generous grant received from a Trust Fund.

As AACL vets will be busy with this throughout the day, AACL will only be able to offer vaccinations, stitches removals and nail clippings on the day to the usual clients.
