Suspect caught after attacking and robbing women

A suspect (32) who has been terrorising older women in the Mondeor area was finally caught on Monday, February 8, after a team effort paid off.

MONDEOR – The suspect had attacked two women recently, one aged 63 in Suideroord on December 23 last year and another aged 87 on January 25 this year.

He had a strange modus operandi, entering women’s homes, threatening to kill them, attacking them and then taking nothing much more than cell phones and food when he left.

At about 09:00 on Monday, a man had been spotted in Bosworth Avenue, Mondeor and Mondeor SAPS Tracing Unit and detectives from Mondeor immediately sprung into action.

Along with assistance from Social Crime Unit, JMPD, CPF Mondeor Sector 2 and help from the community, he was caught by the river just off Bosworth Avenue.

“Mondeor SAPS, Tracing Unit and detectives were absolutely phenomenal in the capturing of this suspect. They kept up the search for him and wouldn’t have stopped until he’d been caught,” said Michelle Pelser (CPF Mondeor Sector 2).

He will be appearing in court on Wednesday February 10.
