MALUTI Street in Winchester Hills has had its fair share of burst water pipes over the past few months, in fact seven bursts since late last November.

Residents Michelle Pelser and Delia Pretorius, as well as many other locals, are outraged about how many times Maluti Street has had to be dug up to fix the broken water pipe, not to mention them not having water for hours on end.

“This is a pathetic situation which isn’t being sorted out. The water pipe bursts and a workforce comes out, digs up the road, fixes the pipe, patches up the road and leaves. Days later, or in this latest instance, hours later, the pipe bursts again, if not in the same place further down the pipe,” explained Michelle and Delia.

According to these two residents, “Not only is this really frustrating but the waste of thousands of litres of water while we are suffering a drought is absolutely disgraceful.”

One resident who was driving past in his car while the CHRONICLE was on site, said, “We don’t know where to bath anymore. Waking up again with no water is becoming tiresome.”

“What is needed is for the whole pipe to be replaced, not repaired over and over again. Even the road is looking dreadful now, full of patches. It was only totally re- tarred just over a year ago. It’s a complete waste of money to keep trying to fix it, when this is obviously not the solution,” said an irate Delia.

The CHRONICLE is awaiting comment from the City of Joburg.
